Animals and Birds
The Medvedsky forest is a nature reserve in the Kirov region.
The fauna of the Medvedsky forest, as elsewhere in the forests, is rather monotonous and small. Among mammals moose, squirrel, fox, white hare, roe deer, chipmunk, hedgehog are common.
Otter, muskrat, and beaver live along the Klyuk and Yurtik rivers.
In the rivers there are pike, crucian carp, perch, roach.
Tarantula spiders and several species of butterflies are found in clearings under the sun.
Currently, 370 species of insects have been registered in the fauna of the Medvedsky forest.
There are rare insects for the Kirov region that are listed in the Red Book of the region: for example, the largest spider is the South Russian tarantula.
More than 200 species of birds live here: oriole, nightjar, hoopoe, kingfisher, capercaillie, rattle warbler, owl is rare, with a wingspan of more than 1.5 meters.
