History
The exploration of the Medvedsky forest nature began in June 1923 when an expedition of the student's society from Vyatka Pedagogical Institute was organized to study this area. A.D. Fokin led the expedition. The expedition gathered interesting materials on geology, soil, fauna and flora of the Medvedsky forest. New species of imperfect fungi and a new mineral palygorskite (“mountain skin”) were discovered there.

The observations made during this expedition allowed geologist A. V. Khabakov to formulate his viewpoint on the origin of Vyatka dunes.
In 1975 the expedition of the Kirov Local Hystory Museum found the sand-loving hawkweed (H. psammophilum), a new species of plants of the European part of Russia.
